ONCE UPON A TIME: Ideas To started back in 2010 and was run by Melissa and Ann Kristin. And we were at some point one of Norway’s most prominent interior blogs with 200.000 pages view and around 80.000 unique visitors a month. After several years in hibernations, the site and content have been redesigned and launched once again. A lot of the material is not here anymore (we had over 900 posts!) as we thought.. who wants tips on places that do not exist anymore or product you can’t buy? So we are starting from scratch again. This time it is only Melissa running the blog.
The last few years I (Melissa) has worked as Head of PR and marketing for one of Norway’s biggest Interior Shop, Verket Interiør. Selling and marketing all big Scandinavian brands like Vitra, HAY, Fritz Hansen, Carl Hansen & Søn, Muuto among tons of small and independent brands and designers. Part of my job was going to trade fairs around Europe and looking at trends and buying the latest interior products to the shop. And also running the e-commerce site and all social media platforms. I love Scandinavian design and architecture and Ideas To Steal is an outlet for me to promote what I love to the world.
WHAT I DO: I do a lot of things and sell a lot of services as a freelance. But my background is as a graphic designer and marketer. That combined with my knowledge of the creative design industry, I currently work freelance doing social media and marketing for small and mid-size companies. Including graphic design, content creation, photography, and websites. If you are in need of some help, please contact me on email@example.com – I love numbers and google analytics and creating marketing campaigns that have a high return on investment. You can do a lot with a little if you think smart and do it right. I also do some interior styling and consulting in my free time.
AIRBNB HOSTING: Other interesting facts about me: I have been an Airbnb host since 2010, hosting over 500 people. Most of them have I shared my flat with my guests in Oslo, which has given me friendships all over the world. And many exciting stories and knowledge about different cultures. I love it, and I will never stop being a host. I was one of the first hosts in Oslo, and before that, I tried couch surfing both as a guest and host. My Airbnb hosting led me to be apart of Airbnb Open Conference in Paris in fall 2015, talking about the use of Social Media to promote the listings on a debate panel. I also did the interior concept at Airbnb NIGHT AT Holmenkollen in spring 2015. Focusing on modern Norwegian design only, and trying to showcase as many designers as possible. During the styling, I was lucky to have the best assistant, my good friend Nina Holst. The result turned out great and is still one of the top “Night at” done by Airbnb.
VILLA HEGGE: Is another project; this cabin is my second home and Airbnb listing. A renovation project in my little hometown of Sjøvegan, far up north above the Arctic circle in Norway. That was finished in 2016/2017 and went live on Airbnb. It will always be a work in progress this cabin and next on the list is landscaping and renovating the garage to build a second apartment in the cottage.
